Tumblr, what are your thoughts.
Is it because I’m not in a relationship that I think the joint checking account/savings account is the stupidest idea known to man?
Because I honestly can’t envision any time where I would be willing to share 100% of my money with another person. It’s not going to happen.
Plus, I’m sorry, but my savings account that I’ve spent the last 5 years building up is not a dowry.
We just got into this discussion at work as a follow-up to the I’m not getting married discussion (at least I had backup in that as V isn’t the marriage type either).

in this country joint accounts make sense for things like the purchasing or mortgaging of homes, and sorting out your will, and personal care in old age. even then, people who have them can (and do) maintain separate accounts for individual spending.

Yep! Even in a committed relationship with trust on both sides, they cause all manner of grief. Errors make it harder to balance the checkbook. Things might bounce. The bank demanding both signatures on stuff makes errands a pain in the ass.
